Job Description
This is a great opportunity be involved with a stereo feature animation pipeline. It is a small dynamic team that has ownership of their work and collaborates closely with multiple departments. The Stereo TD works on-show within the stereo department to design and enhance the production workflow for stereoscopic production. Because stereo touches every part of production, the Stereo TD will work across all departments from lensing right through to lighting and compositing.
Job Responsibilities:
- To understand day to day production needs and offer up suggestions and solutions that can best satisfy those needs.
- Work with artists on a day to day basis to support the pipeline toolset and work-flow.
- Oversee & troubleshoot technical requirements for the Stereo Dept
- Work with RnD to help find common solutions that span across production and RnD.
- Work to to RnD coding, source-control, and release standards and conventions.
- Work with Stereo Supervisor & Production Supervisor to prioritise the order of tool development and communicate this to the R&D and performance unit teams
- Report back to R&D any usage problems and feature requests as appropriate
- Maintain and communicate progress status on development items
- Develop tools, procedures and interfaces to optimize internal stereo pipeline and to manage department inputs and outputs
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of studio wide pipeline solutions for working in stereo.
- It is also expected of the Stereo Pipeline TD to participate in and help with production artistic deliverables where necessary.
Minimum Requirements:
- 3 years of TD or pipeline development experience in a VFX or animated feature pipeline
- Experience with 3D packages, preferably Maya and Houdini
- General understanding of layout and 3D camera lensing work-flow.
- Solid scripting abilities in Python.
- Ability to communicate with technical experts within the computer graphics disciplines.
- Ability to communicate with and technically support artistic staff.
Desirable Requirements:
- Pipeline and work-flow design and tool building, preferably Houdini or Maya
- Experience with 2D packages, preferably Nuke
- Stereoscopic Production experience
- C/C++ coding abilities, including Maya plugin building.
- Render DSO coding.
- Artistic interests and abilities.
